Free Crochet Pattern with Chart – “What a Mesh” Water Bottle Holder

Summer is in full swing here in New England. Day trips and vacations are being planned. It’s doubtful many of you are thinking about crocheting warm hats and scarves. Some do start planning holiday gift giving really early in the year. I’m guilty!

When the weather turns hot, I do tend to pack away my wool blend yarns and break out the cotton yarn. Yes, cotton yarn can be a little harder on the hands (try to keep a loose tension when you work), but the results are worth it! Cotton yarn is so versatile, you can make breathable lightweight hats, bags, baskets…and water bottle holders!

Today for you I have a free crochet pattern, the “What a Mesh” water bottle holder. Great for taking along on nature walks, day trips, or vacations. Keep your hands free for picture taking and hand holding! The bottle cozy works up quickly and uses only a little more than half a ball of cotton yarn – approximately 80 yards. With weaving in end you can easily make one in an evening. Instant gratification almost!

I’ve recently jumped headfirst into the wide world of crochet chart making. There is a bit of a learning curve, but my years of drafting with AutoCad are proving to be a useful skill I can apply to chart making as well. Many hours of staring at a computer screen going cross-eyed looking at lines and arcs has helped prepare me for more hours of going cross eyed while perfecting crochet charts. I don’t claim to be making perfect charts, but I am a perfectionist and will certainly TRY to make things as perfect as possible. Now, let me be frank here, please do not be expecting charts for ALL of my patterns…it takes quite a bit of effort to get everything just so. Some patterns are just too complicated for me to even want to try charting it, at least right now. As my charting skills improve I’m sure I’ll take on more complex patterns to transform into crochet charts. But for now, I’m keeping it simple. SO, if you are a visual learner or just prefer a crochet chart (I know I do), scroll all the way down past the written pattern.

If you do not crochet but would like one or two of these for yourself, please visit my Etsy shop to purchase your very own!
