Update: Now includes Video Tutorial: Crochet Video Tutorial Ponytail Hat

My hair hasn’t been cut since my little girl was born. That’s coming up on three years. Needless to say it’s a bit long now. One of the easiest ways to tame my mane is to put it up in a ponytail. But then I can’t wear my warm hats comfortably. So creating a convertible ponytail hat was my solution.

This hat can be worn as a ponytail hat, a normal hat, a headband, or a neckwarmer. It’s really easy to work up. And quick. The trickiest part is working front post/back post stitches – which I’m sure is no problem for most of you. If you’ve never worked with post stitches before, do yourself a favor and Google or youtube to learn. Post stitches add a really nice touch to crochet items. It’s worth it to know!

My choice of yarn was Simply Soft Party, but any worsted weight yarn will do the trick. Just make sure you chain an even number of stitches to fit around your head and you’re golden.

Enjoy and happy hooking!
