Everyone needs to have a good, quick, easy hat in their crochet pattern arsenal. This is that pattern. Double crochet is a taller stitch so it covers ground WAY faster than if you were making a single crochet beanie. All stitches have their place, of course, but if you are just looking to bust out a hat in an hour-ish, you really can’t go wrong here.

Approx 100 Yards Worsted Weight Yarn

Toddler – G Hook – 14 st and 9 rows in 4″ double crochet
Child – 4.5mm Hook – 13 st and 9 rows in 4″ double crochet
Teen/Adult S – G Hook – 14 st and 9 rows in 4″ double crochet
Adult M – 4.5mm Hook – 13 st and 9 rows in 4″ double crochet
Adult L – H Hook – 13 st and 9 rows in 4″ double crochet
Adult XL – G Hook – 14 st and 9 rows in 4″ double crochet

Notes: Refer to hook size above to ensure you will get the right size hat. Gauge can help you perfect your fit, but if you’re a beginner or intimidated by gauge, don’t get hung up on it. The sizing here is very forgiving.
Chain 2 at beginning of rounds does not count as st.

1. Ch 3
Sl st into first ch to form ring
Ch 2 (does not count as dc here or throughout)
12 dc into ring
Join to first dc w/ sl st (12 dc)

2. Ch 2
2 dc in each st around
Join to first dc w/ sl st (24 dc)

3. Ch 2
Dc in first st
2 dc in next st
* dc in next st
2 dc in next st *
Rep from * to * around
Join to first dc w/ sl st (36 dc)

4. Ch 2
Dc in first st and next st
2 dc in next st
* dc in next 2 st
2 dc in next st *
Rep from * to * around
Join to first dc w/ sl st (48 dc)

5. Ch 2
Dc in first st and next 2 st
2 dc in next st
* Dc in next 3 st
2 dc in next st *

Join to first dc w/ sl st (60 dc)
